accessory dwelling units
At Wright Design, we've been working diligently for years to design in-law additions and granny suites to existing Cincinnati residences in accordance with the zoning code. That is until June 19th 2023, when the Cincinnati City Council voted in favor of legalizing Accessory Dwelling Units to single-family properties, making it easier than ever before to provide housing to family members and promote aging-in-place.
Pictured above is a, then, "addition" to a Northside Residence designed and constructed in 2015. While it acts entirely as an ADU, zoning hadn't yet allowed for detached dwelling units on one single family property. The connected pergola between the existing residence and the accessory structure is what legally categorized it as an addition to the residence.
This project is just one creative example of the many possibilities of Accessory Dwelling Units. This ADU is complete with 750 square feet, an accessible no-step entrance, (1) bedroom, (1) full bathroom, a living area and kitchenette.
